Car jamming caught on camera

The jamming of remote locking systems on vehicles is still prevalent in Edenvale and residents are urged to be alert at all times.

This follows the release of a video in which a man can be seen rummaging through a vehicle parked on Van Riebeeck Avenue, after he apparently jammed the car’s locking system.

According to Mr Kesigan Padayachee, who submitted the video to the NEWS, the incident occurred on February 13.

In the video, a man can be seen parking his car on Van Riebeeck Avenue.

He then exits his car and walks into a nearby shop.

Within seconds another man approaches the vehicle.

He first attempts to open the boot of the car but when this fails, the man moves to the driver’s door and opens it.

He then proceeds to rummage through the vehicle.

The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said residents should always make sure their vehicles are locked.

“Do not walk away from your vehicle without checking to see that the doors are locked,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that should a vehicle not lock, the SAPS or security should be contacted immediately.

“Always be alert for people acting suspiciously around vehicles,” said Lt Col Roberts.

Residents and motorists in Edenvale can report suspicious behaviour to the Edenvale SAPS sector vehicles.

“Residents should take down the sector police vehicle cellular phone number for the areas in which they work and live,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that by contacting the sector vehicles, residents will reduce response times.

“Theft of and from motor vehicles in Edenvale has increased, especially in the CBD,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He urged all residents to be alert at all times.
