Sarens Marathon a hit with runners

Bedfordview resident and winner of the 4km fun run; Luncy Lebeya.

Thousands of runners came together on March 12 for the Sarens Edenvale Marathon.

The marathon, hosted by the Rand Road Warriors in Edenvale, boasted the 42km, 21km half marathon and the Shipshape 10km run.

A 4km Kidneybeanz fun run also took place on the day.

The event, which takes place annually, kicked off on Linksfield Road and ended at Edenvale High School’s sports grounds.

Also taking part in the marathon was 85-year-old Ms Diedre Larkin, from the Randburg Harriers.

She took part in the 10km Shipshape run.

Runners and walkers use the marathon as a qualifier for the Two Oceans as well as the Comrades marathons.

All 42km results are automatically sent to Comrades as a potential qualifying time.

The event supports a number of local charities.

All proceeds of the 4km run are donated to the Kidneybeanz Trust, a Non-Profit Organisation that supports children with lifev threatening kidney diseases as well as their families.

The event provided fun for the whole family with stalls and music available.
