St Benedict’s encourages reading

Grade 4 learner Dylan Caldwell with the much coveted fifth planet prize, a chocolate.

Numerous youngsters are reluctant readers and would much rather be outdoors than inside reading a book.

In an attempt to change this culture, St Benedict’s College introduced a reading club at its prep school.

The boys meet on a Tuesday afternoon and every year a new theme is chosen.

This year the readers are “travelling in space”.

Every book read by the boys allows them to move their rocket to a new planet.

Once they have reached the fifth planet, they are awarded a prize.
