The St Andrew’s School for Girls U/16 A four; Maaike Hersov, Jenna Spence, Hannah Chappel, Tyra Reid and Jenna Bassett-Lee, received a bronze medal at the South African National Rowing Championships this past weekend.
St Benedict’s College rowing club recently won its 24th consecutive South African Schools Rowing title.
The tournament featured 28 rugby teams and 34 netball teams, representing 21 schools in the U/16 and open age groups.
All games were tight in the first round and ended in a second place finish after the first round robin.
They almost single-handedly, Katlego with the bat and Tebogo with the ball, secured the victory for Jeppe that seemed highly unlikely earlier in the day.
The Selborne Sprints regatta is raced over 500m and consists of heats and finals on the same day.
The two schools faced off in eight games, with St Benedict’s winning six and losing just two.
The tournament was held at Ellis Park.
St Benedict’s key bowler, Matthew Oosthuizen who plays in the U/16A cricket side, had an incredible match against Pretoria Boys last weekend with bowling figures of 5/23.
The A team finished in first place and the B team finished in sixth place.
