Former Jeppe Boy, Impey, lives his dream in Tour de France

Daryl Impey.

Impey, riding for team Orica GreenEdge, continued his form at the Tour de France and was the leader for Friday’s stage seven.
Impey was elated after his win. “This is a really special day,” said Impey after the race.
Six years ago, Robert Hunter became the only African to win a stage in the race. After his win, Impey expressed delight at joining Robert Hunter in the history books. He finished in eighth position in the second stage, putting him fourth on the standings.
Impey was part of the team which won the 25 kilometre team time trial by less than a second in Tuesday’s fourth stage. That meant he would be second on the leader board.
Impey’s achievement should highlight cycling as a sport to youngsters, especially at his former school in Kensington. Aspirant cyclists should look at his story and feel determined to succeed.
