EMPD catch man travelling at 216km/h on R24

The driver of a Mercedes Benz travelling at 216 kilometres an hour on the R24 between the Edenvale and Barbara road off ramps was among seven people arrested on Sunday as part of a speed law enforcement operation by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).

The driver of the Mercedes Benz told officers he was late for a flight.

The other six drivers arrested were clocked at speeds of between 161 kilometres an hour and 186 kilometres an hour.

All the arrested drivers were charged with reckless and negligent driving at Edenvale Police Station and later released after posting bail of R1 500 each.

They are expected to appear in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court soon.
