Lions rugby stars visit Wasps in Edenvale

The Wasps Rugby Club was a hive of excitement recently when three Emirates Lions Super Rugby stars arrived to pay the club a visit.

Coach Johan Ackermann was accompanied by two of his star players, Franco Mostert and Ruan Ackermann.

Coach Ackermann motivated the young Wasps players with a pre-season chat and gave all players the opportunity to meet their heroes and pose for photos.

The Wasps handed over a Wasps rugby ball and honorary member caps.

Wasps Rugby Club is a club focused on player development and caters for age groups from U/7 through to U/18.

The club which was founded in 2011 has grown year on year and currently boasts 240 active rugby players, two fully lit rugby fields, a third junior field, an electronic scoreboard and a fully interactive mobile phone app.

The club has 20 fully qualified coaches, a Boksmart auditor, SARU referee performance reviewer and a member of the executive committee which serves as vice chairperson for the union.

Chairman Johann Joubert said that the Wasps are keen on growing their senior division U/14 to U/18 players, this year and he has called on all rugby players to join.

To give back to the Edenvale community Wasps is offering a free of charge season to players U/14 and up.

Such players may register free of charge and only pay for their kit.

Practices are every Tuesday and Thursday from 5pm to 6pm.
