When the NEWS visited the park last year, litter lay strewn across the park, the grass was long and braais were broken.

The stormwater servitude, which cuts through the park, had been damaged and the water was eroding the channel.

When the NEWS reported on the matter Rundle urged the municipality to address the servitude.

He believed if it was not repaired it would erode further and endanger the community.

The spokesperson of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, Themba Gadebe, said despite its appearances Protea Park is maintained regularly.

Gadebe said the grass is cut and weeded often.

“The braai stands will be repaired in the next financial year,” he said.

Despite the NEWS’ questions, EMM did not comment on what would be done to address the soil erosion and the servitude.
