Suspects flee when SAPS officers return fire

Two Edenvale police officers were fired upon while conducting a routine patrol on February 7.

Captain Jean Olckers, the spokesperson of the Edenvale SAPS, said the officers were fired upon when they stopped a suspicious vehicle in the late afternoon.

“Once the vehicle came to a standstill a suspect stepped out of the car and started shooting at the officers,” said Olckers.

“Officers returned fire but the suspects drove away.”

Olckers said it is unknown how many occupants were in the vehicle.

The suspects fled in a metallic silver minibus.

The officers were not injured during the shootout.

A case of attempted murder was opened at the Edenvale Police Station.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police on 10111, 08600 10111 or local sector numbers 071 675 6841/2/3/4.
