Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, said the operation was held to remind motorists with outstanding traffic fines to pay in good time.

“It also ensured that those with outstanding warrants were either assisted to make arrangements to pay on the spot or arrested.”

Twenty-two drivers who had warrants of arrests paid a total of just under R16 000 to avoid arrest.

For each unpaid fine, motorists had to pay R300 for contempt of court.

Additionally, 26 drivers settled their outstanding fines before their final payment dates.

The 26 motorists paid a total of R13 500.

“Motorists have several avenues at their convenience to pay traffic fines,” said Kgasago.

He urged community members to periodically check if they have any outstanding fines.
