EGHS hosts chess tournament

Some of the members of Edenglen High School’s chess team with their coach at the recent Ekurhuleni North Chess Individual League finals.

More than 400 chess players flocked to Edenglen High School for the finals of the Ekurhuleni North Chess Individual League.

The nine-hour long, five-round tournament was hosted by Edenglen High School on May 12.

Eleven learners from EGHS took part in the tournament.

Of the 11 Edenglen learners, five placed in the top 10 of their respective age groups.

Iman Cakirerk (Grade 11) and Akhona Ndaba (Grade 10) qualified for the provincial chess play-offs.

The play-offs will be held in Pretoria on May 26.
