Robbie Vermont, a member of the Modderfontein Conservation Society, took guests on a guided tour of The Dynamite Company and Franz Hoenig Haus on May 19.
The guided walk was held in celebration of International Museum Day, which took place on May 18.
Robbie said the walk has been done for over 15 years and takes place just once a year on the closest Saturday to International Museum Day.
The tour started at 9am and was limited to 20 guests.
“The tour is about the awareness of the history of the Modderfontein area,” said Robbie.
Robbie began the walk with an explanation of the importance of the Modderfontein area’s heritage.
He presented factual and anecdotal information about Modderfontein.
Robbie also delved into the history of the Dynamite Museum and the background of explosives in the area since the 1850s.
He mentioned that many of the buildings are now put to commercial use.
Attendees were encouraged to ask questions during the tour.
Normal museum hours are Tuesday to Thursday from 8.30am to 3.30pm, Friday from 8.30am to 2pm and Saturday from 8.30am to 12.30pm.
