The event took place at Stoneridge Centre in Greenstone Hill from 12 noon to 3pm.

Students from Oakfields College collected donations such as fleece blankets, bath or hand towels and monetary donations.

The charity event was inspired by an assignment on event managing and wedding planning completed by the students, who had to submit a report on what was achieved on the day.

Student Nicole Barros said they came up with the idea themselves.

SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind was in attendance and gave a demonstration of the guide dogs’ abilities to the public.

Oakfields College raised R4 753.55 for the association.

“We would like to thank the students from Oakfields College, the public who supported the initiative as well as the Stoneridge Centre’s management for joining our journey to improve the lives of people who are differently abled.

“Your willingness to accommodate SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind and your efforts to collect items and funds on our behalf enable us to change lives for the better.

“You are all difference-makers,” said Melanie Nel, marketing administrator at SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind.
