Bam-Francis Foundation lends a helping hand

The Bam-Francis Foundation held a Be Smart Don’t Start drug awareness campaign at Jules High School recently.

Co-founder of the NGO, Portia Mkhushulwa said it was an emotional day for some of the youngsters.

“Some youngsters opened up to us about challenges they face concerning drugs and identified some of the causes that led to them using drugs.

“We are proud of the work that we are doing in helping the youth. There are no counsellors, social workers or neutral individuals within their schools whom they can talk to. Some said they can’t talk to teachers because teachers represent a figure of authority in their eyes.

“Some find it difficult to open up to their parents. We have made it our mandate to raise awareness and engage relevant stakeholders who can assist in the silent plight of these young people,” she said.

Mkhushulwa thanked residents and local businesses who are making it possible for the foundation to function.

“Every donations we receive allows us to go an extra mile in making a difference,” she said.
