Jeppe girls talk about 67 Blankets experiences

Minenhle Makhubu: “67 Blankets is an amazing project. The beauty of seeing how a simple ball of wool can transcend into bundles of warmth and hope is amazing. The crocheting experience brings everyone together and offers them hope. We get to serve others just like Mandela had helped others and gave people hope.”

Jeppe High School for Girls has been part of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day for over three years. We asked the learners about their experiences being part of the project.

Thando Madondo:
“67 Blankets has taught me to take time to make something for the less fortunate. Making the scarfs has been an amazing experience and I’m filled with gratitude knowing that I have contributed to making a difference in someone’s life.”

Bronwyn Geen:
“I have not only learned how to crochet but how to be patient, empathetic and understanding of the needs of others. The scarfs and blankets we make might not solve world hunger but it keeps someone warm and that is a small victory on its own.”

Motshebe Mangole:
“Being part of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela has been a wonderful journey. It has taught me about humanity and the power of giving. It started as a competition but as we continued, we became part of a community doing good deeds.”

Phumelela Mbutho:
“67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela has been a learning experience for me. I get to help others while I learn how to crochet. I have become a part of a community that loves giving back to those less fortunate and I’m proud to able to make a difference in some little way.”

Minenhle Makhubu:
“67 Blankets is an amazing project. The beauty of seeing how a simple ball of wool can transcend into bundles of warmth and hope is amazing. The crocheting experience brings everyone together and offers them hope. We get to serve others just like Mandela had helped others and gave people hope.”
