On July 24, Antoinette Dunn’s lapa and other personal possessions were damaged by a residential fire.
Dunn and Plaskitt believed the fire had started at an abandoned property.
Dunn additionally said Plaskitt only responded to her the following day and that it felt like nobody cared about the Klopperpark community.
Plaskitt said Dunn messaged the Klopperpark community’s WhatsApp group about the fire.
She said an emergency number for the fire department was sent in response which Dunn was advised to contact.
“Dunn only attempted to contact me directly after the damage took place around 8 pm,” said Plaskitt.
Plaskitt said as ward councillor she is aware of the residents’ concerns in Klopperpark.
She said before the fire she had escalated the abandoned house with urgency to all relevant departments and structures within the municipality.
“I am doing all I can to track the owner of the abandoned property so that legal processes can be followed in order to demolish the house,” said Plaskitt.
“When the house is demolished it will eliminate any health hazard that it may be causing the community.”
Plaskitt urged community members to contact 011 458 0911, 10177 or 112 during an emergency.
Alternatively, Plaskitt can be contacted on 082 864 9562.
